A decision to leave an existing insurance relationship depends on your actual agreements, finances, and proposed business. This page does not interpret a Northwestern Mutual agreement or establish what you may take, contact, retain, or earn after leaving.
Review your own agreements
Before giving notice or contacting clients about a move, ask qualified counsel to review your agreements and the rules that apply to you. Discuss notice, confidentiality, client contact, records, restrictive provisions, renewals, vesting, and any release process. Keep copies only through authorized channels.
Build a budget from confirmed terms
Ask the current and prospective organizations for the compensation records relevant to you. Compare payment schedules, expenses, chargebacks, renewals, and termination provisions. Allow for uncertainty in appointment and case processing; neither a fixed transition period nor an income increase is promised.
Confirm the proposed operating arrangement
Identify the states, products, and carriers relevant to your practice. Verify licensing, training, appointments, and case-specific availability before presenting or submitting business. Ask which services are available and which steps remain with the carrier or another provider.
Do not move confidential records or client information into a new system until the appropriate authority and handling process are confirmed. Ask your advisers and the responsible organizations how to manage any permitted transition.
Submit a broker inquiry without client personal information. Our team can review your proposed scope and confirm next steps. An inquiry does not create an appointment, release you from an existing obligation, or establish compensation terms.
For insurance professionals. Obtain advice specific to your agreements and circumstances before making a transition decision.
